How Kerala Contained The Deadly Nipah Virus Outbreak In Six Days

Kerala Beats Nipah: No New Infections For Six Consecutive Days, Restrictions Eased

Kerala, a state in southern India, has reported no new cases of the deadly Nipah virus for six consecutive days, prompting the authorities to lift some of the restrictions imposed to contain the outbreak.

The state health minister, Veena George, announced on Thursday that public movement and gatherings would be allowed in Kozhikode district, where all the six confirmed cases were detected earlier this month.

The state government launched a massive testing and contact tracing campaign to prevent further spread of the virus. More than 700 people, including 153 health workers, were tested for the virus and placed under observation. The results of all the samples came back negative, indicating that the outbreak was contained.
